Photo Story: Libya launches child friendly play facilities for children in the post conflict period

27 February 2014 brought smiles and laughter to numerous children and parents from the Abu Slim neighbourhood of Tripoli. The occasion was the inauguration of a playground, bought and installed with support from UNICEF, meant to create a safe and peaceful recreational space for children.

Exploring, sliding down, and swinging on the colourful structures, children enjoyed the new addition to their neighbourhood, as local officials and UNICEF representatives explained the importance of such a safe space for children to the media.

In addition to providing a fun environment, the installation of the playgrounds is expected to help children’s motor skills, social and emotional development through peaceful interactions with other children during play. UNICEF and the Ministry of Local Government signed an agreement for the installation, maintenance and operation of 13 playgrounds in chosen locations across Libya.
