UNSMIL Strongly Condemns Killing of Egyptians, Urges Libyans to Prevent Terrorists from Taking Hold

15 February 2015 - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) strongly condemns the killing of Egyptian nationals in Libya at the hands of ISIS terrorists.

This terrorist crime against these guest workers from neighboring Egypt should be rejected and denounced by all Libyans.

UNSMIL offers condolences to the families of the victims and the Government and the people of Egypt.

The Mission urges Libyan stakeholders to work together to bring about peace to their country in order to prevent terrorist groups from taking advantage of the political and security chaos to expand in their land. The terrorists are the ones who benefit from the continuing fighting and divisions. Only through national unity and dialogue with a view to finding a peaceful solution to their problems can Libyans build their State and its institutions that are able to defeat the terrorists and prevent such atrocities.
