UNSMIL Condemns Killing of Activist in Tripoli, Calls for Thorough Investigation

25 February 2015 – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) condemns the killing of activist Entissar Al-Hasaeri in the Libyan capital of Tripoli.

The bodies of Al-Hasaeri and another woman, Amal Al-Mizdawi, were found in the victim's vehicle on a Tripoli street late Monday 23 February 2015, according to Libyan human rights groups and media reports. Reports said the two women were shot in the head.

UNSMIL calls on the competent Libyan judicial authorities to thoroughly investigate the murders and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Human rights, women's rights and political activists as well as journalists in Libya have been the target of assassination, abduction, death threats and intimidation. UNSMIL calls on the Libyan authorities and all those with effective control on the ground to ensure that they are protected.
