UNSMIL Strongly Condemns Air Attacks on Zintan Airport

02 April 2015 - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya strongly condemns the air strikes conducted on Zintan airport in recent days.

These repeated attacks endanger the civilian population as well as civilian installations, and they seriously undermine the ongoing dialogue efforts to find a solution to the Libyan crisis.

UNSMIL reminds all parties that attacks on civilian facilities may constitute war crimes under international humanitarian law. UNSMIL urges all military actors to desist from taking actions that increase tensions at a time when significant efforts are being made to reach a comprehensive ceasefire and progress has been made towards de-escalation of hostilities such as in the Oil Crescent area.
