Libyan Political Leaders and Activists Meet in Algeria, 03 June 2015

A meeting of Libyan political leaders and political activists facilitated by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and hosted by Algeria convened in Algiers on Wednesday 03 June 2015.

The Libyan dialogue process aims to devise ways to end the political crisis and military conflict in the country. The role of political parties and political activists is important in lobbying the necessary support on all levels to achieve success for the dialogue process and peace for Libya.

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya and Head of UNSMIL, Bernardino Leon, said at the opening of the two-day meeting: “I think we all agree that the time has come to send a very strong message, for all of us and for the ones in Libya, for the ones in other (dialogue) tracks that it is high time to take decisions.”

“Libyans are telling us very clearly enough is enough and the time has come to make this agreement … We want people who are negotiating to think of all Libya and to think especially of the Libyan people that is suffering,” Leon added.
