Libyan Dialogue Participants Condemn Terrorist Attacks in Tunisia, Kuwait, Somalia and France

Attacks Should Drive Libyans to Reach Peace

Skhirat, Morocco, 26 June 2015 - Participants in the Libyan political dialogue, convening in the Moroccan city of Skhirat to try to find a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Libya, express shock and sorrow at the terrorist attacks that took place in Tunisia, Kuwait, Somalia and France today.

They condemn in the strongest terms these attacks, which claimed the lives of so many innocent people and injured many others. They offer sincere condolences to the families of the victims, wish the injured a speedy recovery and express solidarity with the governments and peoples of the affected countries. Participants also remembered those who have lost their lives in the Libyan conflict, especially the victims of terrorist attacks.

The participants reject terrorism in all its shapes and manifestations as unjustifiable acts regardless of their motivation, wherever and whenever, and by whomsoever committed.
These attacks are a cruel reminder of the wide reach of the terrorists, who know no limits or national boundaries, and the need to combat them at all levels.

The participants, representing a wide range of Libyan political stakeholders, are well aware of the suffering of Libya from terrorist groups, which are taking advantage of the internal conflict, the weakening of the State institutions and the breakdown of law and order to strengthen their hold on territory and expand their brutal rule. These horrendous attacks today should drive Libyans to set aside their differences and work together for the sake of bringing peace to Libya.

Discussions in Skhirat on the political agreement to end the conflict in Libya are at their final stages. There is a good chance this agreement will put Libya back on the road to stability and prosperity. This opportunity should not be missed. Together with their commitment and determination, as well as the support of their friends in the international community, the people of Libya will restore stability and defeat terrorism.

The participants observed a minute of silence to remember the victims of the terrorist attacks.
