25 September 2015 - On the occasion of the blessed Eid al-Adha, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya Bernardino Leon appeals to all parties in Libya to release those who are still detained outside the framework of the law so that they can return to their families and participate in the celebrations.

As well as contributing to the respect of human rights and build confidence among Libyans, such releases would be in line with the text and spirit of the political agreement that the Libyan parties are giving final consideration to. SRSG Leon looks forward to all Libyan parties showing fairness and magnanimity towards those they hold in captivity.

SRSG Leon takes this opportunity to renew his best wishes to all Libyans for a peaceful blessed Eid. Peace and security are the demands of all Libyans in all regions, particularly in Benghazi which is facing very difficult conditions due to the ongoing fighting, and in areas such as Sirte that are under the brutal rule of the terrorist groups. SRSG Leon calls on the Libyan parties to put their country's interests above all considerations and unite their efforts behind the political agreement to bring peace to their country.
