29 February 2016 – Tunis – The United Nations and the Libyan Bureau of Statistics presented the results of the 2014 Libyan National Family Health Survey to the international community, United Nations agencies and the Libyan Embassy on Monday 29 February. UNSMIL DSRSG/RC/HR/RR, Mr. Ali Al-Za’tari, chaired the ceremony together with Dr. Abdalla Zidan, Director of Libyan Census & Statistical Bureau.

The survey, conducted by the Libyan Bureau of Statistics and Census and the National Center for Disease Control, is part of the “Pan-Arab Project for Family Health” (PAPFAM), led by The League of Arab States and supported by UNFPA, WHO and UNICEF.

The survey provided baseline data on the health, social, and economic status of households, married women and children in Libya in 2014 and shed light on worsening living conditions due to the current humanitarian crisis.
According to the experts, this short survey focused on core household level indicators with limited geographical scope will help monitor family, women and children social and health status in Libya.

The international community and the UN Agencies welcomed the results of the survey with great interest and highlighted how such findings should help inform Libyan policymakers and provide enough evidence to better support and serve Libyan people.
