During a one day visit to Al-Zawiya, United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General Ian Martin met with members of the Local, Military, and Shura Councils, in addition to the Union of Revolutionaries, civil society organizations and activists.

New York, 10 November 2011: As the President of the General Assembly President has just briefed, last week I visited Libya together with the President of the General Assembly to congratulate the Libyan people on their liberation. We went to affirm the commitment of the United Nations to assisting Libya's transition to democracy.
