Photos: Libyan Women Meeting in the Framework of Political Dialogue Commences Today, 24 August 2015

24 August 2015 - A meeting of representatives of Libyan women groups and women activists, in the framework of the political dialogue, commenced on Monday 24 August 2015 in Tunis, Tunisia. The three-day meeting, facilitated by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) in partnership with UN Women, will discuss the role of Libyan women in promoting and sustaining a peaceful resolution to the conflict in their country.

Addressing the opening session, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Ali Al-Za’tari, said Libyan women have provided valuable insights that have enriched the dialogue process.

He added: "The voice of Libyan women and their opinion will be heard and will influence the conclusion of the agreement that, we ask God, will be successful soon. We are still in the phase that precedes the signing of the Agreement and precedes drafting its annex and the formation of a consensual Government. These are important phases which require that you take part in and raise the voice, the status, the position and the participation of women in public life on equal basis with men.”…
