Kobler to Tobruk and Tripoli: Libyan People Deserve Peace, Prosperity; Time to Form Accord Gov.

23 November 2015 – Special Representative of the Secretary-General Martin Kobler, on his first visit to Libya, pressed for the urgency of a rapid signature of the political agreement and the establishment of a Government of National Accord (GNA) to end the conflict

Kobler met Libyan interlocutors in Tobruk and Tripoli on 21-22 November. He declared he was encouraged by the constructive discussions and promised intensified efforts to bring peace to Libya. “I would like to work with determination and wise decisiveness to build with the Libyans the peace, security and prosperity they deserve”, Kobler said.

Both in Tobruk and in Tripoli Kobler reiterated that a strong government of National Accord is the only option to empower the Libyan people to address the many problems the country faces. He underlined his readiness to work with the Libyans toward this goal in a spirit of full transparency and in an inclusive manner.
