UN Secretary-General Commends Fayez Serraj Hard Work for the Good of Libya

New York, 11 February 2016 -Today, the Secretary-General spoke on the telephone with the Prime Minister-designate of Libya, Mr. Fayez Serraj. The Secretary-General commended Mr. Serraj’s hard work for the good of Libya over the past months, noting that he and the Presidency Council had made considerable progress under difficult circumstances. The Secretary-General encouraged Mr. Serraj to continue working with other members of the Presidency Council, and with his Special Representative, in order to iron out the final issues and submit a new list of proposed ministers to the House of Representatives soon.

The Secretary-General emphasized the urgency to form a Government of National Accord, so that Libyans can address together the many challenges they are facing, including the threat of an expansion of Da’esh and economic decline.
