The Netherlands and UNDP sign a Cost Sharing Agreement for 2 million Euros for the Stabilization Facility for Libya
Following the decision of the Stabilization Facility for Libya Project Board last week to initiate a quick assessment in Benghazi, Kikla and Obari, the Netherlands and UNDP signed today an Agreement for two million euros towards the Stabilization Facility for Libya.

Towards a Professional Media in Libya
Libyan managers and journalists agree on an action plan for media reform to promote national reconciliation and enhance freedom of expression

Madrid, Spain – 3 June 2016 – A number of Libyan media managers and journalists have proposed a wide range of reforms to strengthen professional standards and advocate for freedom of expression as a cornerstone of Libyan society. Cognisant of the crucial role the media plays in national reconciliation, participating media outlets have agreed to joint initiatives to promote greater social cohesion in line with the expressed wishes of Libyan citizens.

Libyan Women Conclude Three-Day Parallel Workshops on Negotiation and Conflict Resolution and Woman’s Right and Political Participation

Representatives of Libyan women groups and women activists, from diverse backgrounds representing all areas of Libya, concluded today two parallel workshops.

Divided into two groups, the participants attended two separate training sessions on Negotiations and Conflict Resolution as well as Women’s Rights and Political Participations. The training sessions took place in Monastire, Tunisia, from 01 to 03 June 2016, and were organized by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and UN Women, with funding provided by the Swiss Government.

Towards a Professional Media in Libya
An Action Plan for Reform in the Media Sector
Madrid, Spain – 1 June 2016 – Building on the achievements of previous meetings and the recent elaboration of the Code of Ethics for Libyan Journalists and Media Professionals in a Time of Crisis, a three-day workshop examining the direction of reform in the Libyan media sector has commenced today in the Spanish capital.  The meeting brings together a number of Libyan media managers and journalists to discuss substantive recommendations for change to promote freedom of expression and an independent press, reinforcing the media’s contribution to national reconciliation.

Libyan young women and women on top of the Libyan agenda
UNFPA, The United Nations Population Fund  (Libya Office) organized a workshop on "Strengthening the status of women and their participation in the Libyan society", from 14 to 16 May in collaboration with the National Council for Economic and Social Development,The Forum for the Empowerment of Woman and Youth, and  with the participation of a number of Libyan national institutions.  Several government service-providing sectors such as Education, Health, Social Affairs, Justice and Interior Sectors took part in the workshop, along with representatives of the municipal councils and a number of civil society organizations from four municipalities: Tripoli, Benghazi, Sabha and Jadu in the Nafusa Mountains.

“Southern Libya towards Reconciliation, Peace and Development” Round-Table Convenes in Tunis
Tunis, 31 May 2016 - Thirty leading figures from southern Libyan, representing various national and local institutions, gathered yesterday in the Tunisia capital to attend a three-day round-table, from 30 May to 01 June, to discuss the region’s major challenges and the way forward. The round-table is organized by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and UN Development Programme (UNDP).
