UNSMIL Meets with Female House of Representatives Members in Tobruk
5 October 2016 - The Director of the Women’s Empowerment at the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Maghda El-Sinnousi visited the city of Tobruk in eastern Libya, yesterday to meet with female House of Representatives members - Dr. Aisha Yousif AlTablagi, Dr. Saltana Al Mismari, Ms. Sabah Jomaa, Ihlam Ahmed Allafi, Rabha Alfarjani, Hanan Aldeeb and Ms. Rahma.

Human Rights Report on Civilian Casualties - September 2016
Tunis, 1 October 2016 – From 1 September to 30 September 2016, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) documented 14 civilian casualties, including 7 deaths and 4 injured, during the conduct of hostilities across Libya. Victims included 1 child killed and 1 injured, 6 women killed and 1 injured and 3 men killed and 2 injured.

UNHCR holds training on international refugee protection for Libyan officials
Tunis, Tunisia, 28 September 2016 – The office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Libya organized a 3 day training for 20 Libyan officials in Tunisia on 26, 27 and 28 September 2016. The training was an occasion to gather various local authorities involved in refugee protection, to discuss and exchange information about international refugee law, as well as the situation of refugees in Libya.

Statement by Ghassan Khalil, UNICEF Special Representative on the killing of children in Libya
TUNIS, 23 September 2016 - “According to reports, at least nine civilians including women and children were killed and 20 others were wounded in Sokna, an oasis town in central Libya, on Tuesday. 

“The attack hit a public park where children and families were enjoying themselves. This attack shows that even the simple act of playing has become dangerous for the children of Libya.

“UNICEF calls on all parties to the conflict in Libya to protect children from all forms of violence and keep them out of harm’s way.
