UNICEF PR: Nationwide school assessment shows great need for investment in Libyan education sector

TRIPOLI, 28 February 2013 – Some 40 percent of the schools in Libya were damaged in the 2011 revolution according to a report released by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and UNICEF today. These findings are based on a recent nationwide school assessment conducted by the MoE and UNICEF, which for the first time has given the Ministry a complete overview of the exact state of all schools in the country.

United Nations Visits Al-Baghdadi Al-Mahmoudi in Prison

 Tripoli, 28 February 2013- UNSMIL representatives visited Al-Baghdadi Al-Mahmoudi, former Prime Minister under the Qadhafi regime, at his place of detention, the Correction and Rehabilitation center at al-Hadba in Tripoli today. The visit was in response to allegations attributed to a Tunisian lawyer in media reports yesterday that Al-Baghdadi Al-Mahmoudi had been tortured and was in “critical condition.”
