UNSMIL urges parties to set aside blame and agree on urgent measures to stabilize Libya’s economy
09 Apr 2025 - UNSMIL is concerned about Libya’s worsening economic situation and the exchange of divisive, politically based accusations about responsibility for it, following the Central Bank of Libya’s devaluation of the Libyan dinar and its explanatory statement of 6 April. The Mission urges all parties to prioritise the national interest, set aside blame and agree on urgent measures to stabilise the national economy. -

22 Mar 2025 - Tripoli — UNSMIL is alarmed by the wave of arbitrary arrest and detentions across Libya by law enforcement and security actors. These actors are using their powers of arrest and detention to target individuals for their alleged political affiliations, to silence perceived dissent and to undermine judicial independence. -

20 Dec 2024 - KUFRA, Libya — A high-level United Nations delegation visited Kufra yesterday to assess the ongoing humanitarian response for Sudanese refugees. Led by UNSMIL Officer-in-Charge Stephanie Koury and Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Aeneas Chuma, the delegation included representatives from IOM, UNDP, UNFPA, UNHCR, UNICEF, WFP, and WHO.
