On 16 December, MINURSO celebrated Kazakhstan National Day by raising its flag at the Mission headquarters in Laayoune.

On this day in 1991, the Supreme Soviet of the USSR adopted a law granting independence to the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Since independence, Kazakhstan has been contributing uniformed personnel to UN peacekeeping operations all over the world, including to MINURSO.

The blue color of Kazakhstan’s flag represents unity, the sun with 32 rays represents prosperity, while the golden eagle reflects the aspirations to rise to full potential, linking to Kazakh history and traditions where the eagle is a revered symbol of power and freedom.
