STATEMENT BY THE TRILATERLA MECHANISM ON CEASEFIRE

The Trilateral Mechanism (AU-IGAD-UN) welcomes the announcement by the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces to a ceasefire to restore calm in Sudan during Eid El-Fitr.

The AU-IGAD-UN envoys in Sudan note that the commitment of both parties in Sudan happens at a crucial time for Sudanese people.

The agreement to ceasefire will allow the civilians to access critical assistance such as food, water, and medical care.

The envoys express their sincere condolences to the families of civilians who lost their lives and wish a speedy recovery for the injured.

The Trilateral Mechanism stresses the importance of reaching a long-term cessation of hostilities, for the sake of all Sudanese and their future.
