Note to correspondents: In response to questions on the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL)

New York, 04 March 2014 - In response to questions from the media, the Spokesperson has the following to say:

The Secretary-General yesterday, in Mt Pelerin, Switzerland, met his Special Representative for Libya, Mr. Tarek Mitri, who briefed him on recent political and security developments in Libya. In reporting on the work of UNSMIL, Mr Mitri focused on his engagement in facilitating political dialogue in a context marked by deep divisions. The Secretary-General expressed his support and appreciation for the work of his Special Representative and UNSMIL in offering "good offices", defusing tensions and helping to prevent the use of force to resolve political problems.
