The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the deadly attack that occurred in Benghazi, Libya, on 13 May, causing numerous deaths and injuries. The members of the Security Council expressed their deep sympathy and sincere condolences to the families of the victims of this heinous act, and to the Government and people of Libya.

Tripoli – 13 May 2013 – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) strongly condemns the criminal bombing that took place this afternoon near Al-Jala’a Hospital in Benghazi city. The bombing resulted in a number of deaths, including children, in addition to several injuries. UNSMIL would like to express its sincerest condolences to the families of the victims, and wishes those injured a speedy recovery.

TRIPOLI, 24 April 2013 – Under the leadership of the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Libyan Government is currently preparing a 3rd and 4th periodic state report on the situation of children in Libya, and the report will be submitted to the Child Rights Committee (CRC) in Geneva later this year. UNICEF is providing technical support to the Ministry in this process.

TRIPOLI, 21 April 2013 – The Libyan Higher Judicial Institute (HJI) and UNICEF have launched a comprehensive capacity building programme for judges, prosecutors, and others involved in the judicial system in Libya, with the aim of preparing a solid ground for building a juvenile justice system in Libya. The Higher Judicial Institute has also hosted and led, with UNICEF’s technical support, a 3-day consultation on drafting a Juvenile Justice Law.
