"Together For Children" UNICEF’s National Campaign in Libya

Zarzis, Tunisia, 21 April 2015 – UNICEF launched ‘Together for Children’, a national campaign with municipalities in Libya.

The Campaign aims at providing psychosocial support for the internally displaced children, the establishment of child friendly spaces, the prevention of school dropouts, the integration of school-based psychosocial activities, the non-involvement of children in the armed conflict and empowering young people and engaging their parents through local and community actions.

“By joining ‘Together for Children’ municipalities pledge themselves to respect, promote and defend children’s rights in Libya,” said Ghassan Khalil, UNICEF Special Representative in Libya. “The launch of the Campaign with 14 municipalities will undoubtedly strengthen our work towards upholding children’s rights.”

UNICEF will hold in May another forum for the next group of municipalities who have expressed, following the launching, their enthusiasm to join the Campaign. The following municipalities have already joined the campaign: Janzour, Benghazi, Albaydaa, Abou Salim, Qasr Ben Ghesheir, Tawergha local council, Zintan, Souq Al Khamis, Al Zawiya West, Andalus, Swani beni Adam, Isbeia, Zuwara and Tripoli.

UNICEF got engaged with municipalities following the UNSMIL organized meeting in Brussels in March 2015, which was hosted by the European Union.
