Special Envoy Ján Kubiš continues engagement with Libyan actors to advance the peace process in Libya leading to the holding of elections on 24 December

Yesterday, the Special Envoy Ján Kubiš had a telephone call with Khaled Mishri, Chairman of High Council State (HCS), and discussed the recently adopted UNSCRs 2570, 2571, their main messages, and the ongoing activities of the HCS related to subject matters covered by the resolutions.  In particular, they talked about the necessary steps that should be adopted by the respective authorities and institutions of Libya for the national elections to take place on 24 December as stipulated by the LPDF Roadmap.

They also discussed the preparation of the unified budget where the HCS informed about their positions presented to the respective institutions. Further, they discussed the efforts towards the resolution of appointments of sovereign positions where they, among others, reconfirmed the need to fully respect the independence of the judiciary.

Separately, the Special Envoy had a telephone conversation with Aref Ali Nayed, Chairman of Ihya Libya (Reviving Libya), they discussed the overall situation in Libya and efforts necessary to keep the positive momentum in all tracks under the Berlin process that should eventually lead to the holding of the parliamentary and presidential election on 24 December.
