Statement of the Misrata / Tawergha Joint Committee, 11 September 2015

The Misrata / Tawergha Joint Committee met in Tunis, Tunisia, on 09-11 September 2015 under the auspices of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), on the basis of previously reached agreements. Participants studied the victims' file as part of the strategy to resolve the issue of return. They agreed to set out a clear plan for reparations for the victims in terms of classification and harm and setting up a working mechanism in this regard.

Participants also agreed to continue working on the issue of Tawerghan prisoners, civil registry and other required documentation for the Tawergha families as part of confidence-building measures.
UNSMIL will continue to provide technical assistance to the Joint Committee.

Participants also agreed on defining the agenda for the next meeting.

The Joint Committee affirmed its full support to the political dialogue and the formation of a Government of National Accord to meet the aspirations of the Libyan people and establish the rule of law, ending the conflict and safeguarding Libyan unity.
