Statement by SRSG Hanna S. Tetteh on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr
On the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all the people of Libya. May this blessed occasion foster unity, peace, and hope throughout the nation.
Reflecting on my first Ramadan in Libya, I have been inspired by the solidarity and compassion among Libyans, as well as their dedication to preserving authentic and beautiful traditions. However, my engagements with Libyans from across the country have also highlighted growing concerns over the political stalemate and the increasing economic difficulties faced by many. While I commend the resilience of the Libyan people, I urge political leaders, institutions, and authorities to draw inspiration from the spirit of Eid and work diligently toward fostering peace, stability, and prosperity.
As we celebrate, let us also remember those who are spending Eid far from their homes and families due to displacement, arbitrary arrest, or unlawful detention. I call upon authorities to uphold the values of human rights as the cornerstone of building trust, promoting reconciliation, and ensuring an inclusive society that reflects the aspirations of all Libyans.
Eid Mubarak Saeed.
