DSRSG for Libya Ali Al-Za'tari Condemns Airstrikes Killing and Injuring Civilians in Derna
16 June 2016 - Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya Ali Al-Za'tari condemns recent airstrikes in residential areas in Derna, which have led to civilian casualties. According to information received by UNSMIL, two children, two men and one woman have been killed, and six children, one women and one man injured as a result of at least four airstrikes in Derna that took place between 04 and 15 June 2016.
"The continuing airstrikes in urban areas populated by civilians must stop," said Ali Al-Za'tari." He expresses his deep condolences to the families of the victims and wishes speedy recovery to those injured
The Deputy Special Representative reminds all parties in Libya of their obligations to respect the provisions of international humanitarian law, that direct attacks on civilians or indiscriminate attacks are war crimes, and those responsible should be prosecuted.
