TUNIS – Members of the Smaller Convening met today to follow up on the implementation of the agreement they signed in Tripoli on 30 August.

During the session, chaired by Special Representative of the Secretary-General Hanna Tetteh, participants reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the agreement toward holding national elections that meet the Libyan people's aspirations for stability and prosperity under unified, legitimate institutions.

The members of the Smaller Convening reviewed the various announced positions to the agreement, particularly the supportive stance of the United Nations Security Council and the House of Representatives. They agreed to maintain engagement with other local stakeholders to build the broadest possible support for the agreement.

Today’s meeting marked the ninth meeting of the Smaller Convening and the first since the signing of the agreement to reconstitute the High National Elections Commission and amend electoral laws. The next follow-up meeting is scheduled for early October.
