TRIPOLI – Young men and women from across Libya are encouraged to apply to join the youth communication team supporting the Structured Dialogue to create content for the digital youth platform throughout the process.

Volunteer opportunities for up to 16 Libyan youth aged 18 to 35 are being offered to those who have strong communication and content creation skills with an interest in the political process. This initiative empowers Libyan youth to actively engage in the Structured Dialogue and ensures that the priorities of their communities are amplified across all four tracks of the process.

The volunteers will be supported by UNSMIL with training through the Basirah Media Training Programme and will be able to put forward ideas on how best to communicate key issues. This will be a chance to strengthen leadership, communication, and civic engagement skills while contributing to informed public discussion. These volunteers are not UN staff nor employees of any UN organization. This is an unpaid opportunity.

Teams of four volunteers will engage with Structured Dialogue members each month across the process. They are expected to work within their communities to create content highlighting the real impact of issues like political division, economic instability, or human rights challenges on daily lives. The produced content will be featured on the Youth Digital Platforms and will be shared with /accessed by the Structured Dialogue tracks.

“Youth are an important part of the Structured Dialogue as they represent approximately 38% of the population and are the driving force for building the country” said the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General for Political Affairs, Stephanie Koury. “This opportunity allows young men and women to engage in the process beyond those that are in the dialogue teams.”

Interested applicants who meet the following criteria may apply using the form below by midnight on 15 February.

Applicants for the volunteer role must meet the following criteria:
  • Aged 18-35 and living in Libya;
  • No political affiliation;
  • Have demonstrated experience creating social media content, including videos and written content, and feel confident conducting interviews;
  • Ideally have a significant following on social media.

Selected volunteers will be required to:
  • Available to volunteer time for up to 10 days for one month;
  • Actively participate in mandatory online journalism training provided by UNSMIL throughout the Structured Dialogue process;
  • Create content highlighting key Structured Dialogue topics for youth.

UNSMIL aims to begin training the selected youth volunteers in early March with the first team of four joining across Structured Dialogue discussions to create content. Four youth will rotate in as active members of the team each month.

The work of the Structured Dialogue aligns with UNSMIL’s mandate to use its good offices to facilitate an inclusive, Libyan-owned and -led political process, and to advance consensus on governance arrangements toward the holding of national elections, unified accountable institutions and long-term stability.

The Structured Dialogue will issue concrete recommendations to create a conducive environment for elections and address more immediate governance, economic, and security challenges to strengthen state institutions. Members of the Structured Dialogue will also propose a mechanism to ensure the implementation of the recommendations.
