As the holy month of Ramadan draws to a close and Eid al-Fitr arrives, I would like to extend my heartfelt greetings to all the people of Libya. May this Eid be an occasion to strengthen unity and peace and to revive hope for a stable, prosperous Libya.

Despite all the economic challenges Libyans have faced during the month of Ramadan, I have been inspired by your resilience and the preservation of your beautiful traditions, and your generosity from sharing communal iftar meals, to community initiatives, to extending a helping hand to other community members and migrants as well, from the far east to the west and south of the country.

Nevertheless, Libyans deserve a better life, and I call on all political leaders, institutions, and authorities to work diligently and draw inspiration from the spirit of Eid to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the country and engage in the political roadmap to bring about a more prosperous and inclusive future to all Libyans.

I also urge the authorities to uphold human rights values, which are the cornerstone of an inclusive society, respecting individuals rights and freedoms, fostering reconciliation and building a country that offers opportunity and reflects the aspirations of all Libyans, as today, many families are spending Eid with economic challenges, or away from their homes and loved ones due to forced displacement, or while awaiting news of their loved ones especially those who have disappeared due to arbitrary arrest or unlawful detention.

However, for as long as we have life, there is always the opportunity to create a better future and to look forward to brighter days; for that reason, I wish you all a joyful celebration.

Eid Mubarak and Saeed.
