UNSMIL welcomes House of Representatives’ endorsement of the Smaller Convening Agreement

TRIPOLI —The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) welcomes the endorsement by the House of Representatives (HoR) of the Smaller Convening Agreement signed on 30 August 2026. This support—reflected in yesterday's session in Benghazi chaired by Speaker Agila Saleh and an earlier joint statement by 103 Members of Parliament—represents an important step forward.
The broad backing expressed for the Smaller Convening Agreement underscores the importance of advancing a consensual path towards national elections. As a key component of the broader UN-facilitated political roadmap, the Smaller Convening addressed the first two critical milestones of the political process and contributes to efforts to overcome the current political deadlock.
The Mission remains committed to supporting Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process to unlock the political impasse, unify and strengthen national institutions, and create the conditions necessary for the holding of inclusive and credible parliamentary and presidential elections in line with the aspirations of the Libyan people.
