TRIPOLI – Thirty-five civil society representatives from across Libya joined an online orientation session last Thursday. The session aimed to prepare them to lead discussions within their youth networks on implementing the Structured Dialogue (SD) outcomes.

Participants received presentations an overview of the SD four tracks. They discussed the best ways to create safe, secure and neutral spaces for young men and women to discuss the SD recommendations and share their ideas and views on the political process and effective ways to implement the SD outcomes.

Over the next six weeks, CSOs will hold discussions within their civil society networks and communities. Following this, CSOs will put feedback about the outcomes into a digital form and will be invited in person to engage with national and UN officials on the role youth play in implementing the SD outcomes.

"We commit to holding dialogues that strengthen community participation," said a participant from Derna. "Meetings do not have to cover all the issues. Different communities can select the topics most relevant to them."

Each CSO is encouraged to engage directly with their members and communities. Discussions should cover the SD outcomes and discuss how best they can be implemented by mid-November using a user-friendly UNSMIL-developed toolkit.

"There are many outcomes,” said another participant. “So we must be clear on the solutions, timelines and mechanisms for implementation,” adding that youth should be at the core of the work and any follow-up mechanism of implementation.

Civil society organisations interested in holding discussions within their networks can use the SD toolkits to facilitate meaningful workshops.
