The Secretary-General welcomes the signing in Libya yesterday of an agreement addressing the first two milestones of the U.N. Support Mission in Libya’s (UNSMIL) political roadmap. Those milestones are: reconstituting the board of the High National Elections Commission and addressing contentious issues in the legal framework for presidential and parliamentary elections. The agreement marks an important step in advancing Libya towards national elections and ending the transitional period. The Secretary-General calls on all relevant Libyan actors and institutions to engage in good faith to advance this agreement, which demonstrates that progress is possible through dialogue.
