18 Jul 2018 - Tunis, 11 July 2018 - A group of internally displaced persons (IDPs), activists, civil society organizations members and some representatives of those displaced from Benghazi attended a two-day consultative meeting in Tunis to discuss the future dialogue process. UNSMIL and UNDP facilitated the consultations as part of the project “Towards National Reconciliation in Libya,” which acts in support of local dialogue processes and mediation efforts throughout Libya.

11 Jul 2018 - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) welcomes the return to regular production and export of Libya’s oil under the control of the National Oil Corporation. This is in compliance with UN Security Council Resolutions (2259, 2278 and 2362.). UNSMIL is encouraged by the decision of the NOC to lift the force majeure, enabling the resumption of oil exports.

29 Jun 2018 - UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is deeply saddened at the latest tragedy in the Mediterranean Sea. On 29 June, at least 100 people died after a boat carrying around 123 refugees and migrants sank off the coast of Tajoura in Libya.
According to the survivors, the unseaworthy and overcrowded rubber boat they were traveling in sank at sea. Survivors were swimming for one hour before they were rescued by the Libyan coast guard.

This day acknowledges and honours the many survivors of torture world-wide, including those who have been tortured for their political or other views, those caught in the fight against terrorism or those who have been tortured simply because of their differences. Victims of torture have a right to an effective remedy, rehabilitation and redress.
