30 Aug 2019 - Tripoli, 30 August 2019 – As her assignment in Libya has come to an end after two and half years of tireless work and dedication, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya, Ghassan Salamé, expressed his sincere appreciation for his Deputy, the UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator for Libya, Ms. Maria do Valle Ribeiro, and welcomes the arrival of her successor Mr. Yacob El Hillo.
27 Aug 2019 - TRIPOLI, Libya – UNHCR’s Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees, Kelly T. Clements, concluded a two-day visit to Libya on Tuesday, committing to continued support for displaced people and others affected by ongoing clashes.
17 Aug 2019 - Following two consecutive LNA-claimed airstrikes on Zuwara Airport in Western Libya, on 15 and 16 August, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) today dispatched an assessment mission to the airport. After reviewing the airport’s facilities and all the adjacent buildings, the assessment mission was able to confirm that neither military assets nor military infrastructure were observed at Zuwara Airport.
15 Aug 2019 - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) deplores the ever-increasing and systemic attacks on airports in western Libya, including Zuwara and Mitiga. These attacks have endangered the lives of thousands of civilian travelers, including UN staff and humanitarian workers. Mitiga airport is the only functioning airport in the greater Tripoli area available for use by hundreds of thousands of civilians and for the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
15 Aug 2019 - Since the beginning of the offensive on Tripoli in early April, more than 37 attacks have been registered against health workers and facilities, including hospitals, field hospitals and civilian and military ambulances. These deplorable attacks which impacted at least 19 ambulances and 19 hospitals, have resulted in 11 deaths, and injuries to more than 33 persons, although the actual number may be significantly higher.
14 Aug 2019 - Tripoli, 14 August 2019 - Following the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) call upon the parties on 8 August to express their commitment to a humanitarian truce on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, the mission welcomes the positive response by the parties and the palpable reduction of violence in the Tripoli area.
11 Aug 2019 - The Members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the attack on a UN Convoy on 10 August 2019 in Benghazi. Those behind the attack should be identified and held accountable.
The Members of the Security Council expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, and wished a speedy and full recovery to those who were injured.
10 Aug 2019 - 10 August 2019 - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) welcomes the agreement by concerned parties to the principle of humanitarian truce on the occasion of Eid al-Adha and calls for its terms to be respected to the letter to uphold the sanctity of Eid and ensure the interest of Libyans.
