10 Feb 2019 - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) reminds all parties of their obligations to guarantee the protection of civilians and the country's resources – which belong to all Libyans - by avoiding targeting economic facilities and putting civilians in harm’s way, under any pretext. UNSMIL reiterates the need for all parties to abide by international humanitarian law.
06 Feb 2019 - Tripoli, 5 February 2019 – Seven years after the revolution, hundreds of thousands of people across Libya, live in dire conditions. In a bid to respond to the urgent humanitarian needs for 552,000 most vulnerable people living in Libya, the United Nations together with the Government of National Accord today launched the 2019 Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP2019), seeking US$202 million, to continue providing health support, protection, water, and shelter.
05 Feb 2019 - The Women's Support and Empowerment Unit for the Presidency Council held its first coordination meeting today, in the Prime Minister's Office in the Libyan capital Tripoli, with a number of representatives of embassies in in Libya, United Nations agencies, the European Union, the European Union Border Assistance Mission, in addition to International non-governmental organizations.
02 Feb 2019 - The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Libya, Ghassan Salame, met with Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States(LAS), today in Cairo to discuss the latest developments in Libya.
29 Jan 2019 - UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, evacuated yesterday (28 January) 130 people out of Libya, marking the first evacuations to Niger in 2019.
The individuals evacuated had been detained in very dire conditions, and for months on end. UNHCR advocated for them to be released, and transferred them to the Gathering and Departure Facility in Tripoli, which opened last December, while their processing for solutions outside Libya was being completed.
17 Jan 2019 - Tripoli, 17 January 2019 – As part of its continuous efforts to support the Libyan Government in strengthening the capacity of State’s regular security institutions, UNSMIL hosted a meeting today between the Minister of Interior (MoI), his two deputies and 18 high-ranking officers, and representatives of the diplomatic corps in Libya, at the mission’s headquarters in Tripoli.
16 Jan 2019 - Tripoli, 16 January 2019 - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) strongly condemns the recent military mobilisation of forces in southern Tripoli and is monitoring the situation closely. UNSMIL warns parties against any breach of the ceasefire agreement concluded on 04 and 09 September 2018, compromising stability in the capital and, most importantly, endangering the lives of civilians and their properties.
09 Jan 2019 - TUNIS – UN-Habitat launched a ten-day training course in Geographic information System (GIS) mapping on urban planning for 18 civil servants from different branches of Libya’s Urban Planning Agency (UPA) and six municipalities. (Benghazi, Ubari, Al Kufra, Sebha, Sirte and Janzour).
