  • 20 May 2017 - The Secretary-General is deeply concerned about the military escalation at the Brak al-Shati air base in southern Libya and calls on all parties to exercise restraint and restore calm. He is particularly disturbed by the high number of fatalities as well as reports of summary executions of civilians, which, if confirmed, may constitute war crimes. The continued insecurity in Libya is a reminder that there is no military solution.
  • 18 May 2017 - The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Martin Kobler, strongly condemns the unprovoked attack on the Brak al-Shati airbase in southern Libya yesterday.  
  • 16 May 2017 - In continuation of WHO efforts to mitigate polio virus importation to Libya, WHO in coordination with UNICEF supported and facilitated for NCDC, the implementation of Sub-National Immunization Campaign in 8 districts of the South including children of migrants and IDPs. In spite of active war during all phases of the campaign 86,253 (83.4%) children below 6 years were vaccinated from 29th  April to 4th May 2017.

  • 10 May 2017 - Tunis - The Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development in Germany announced an additional funding of 6.5 million euro to UNICEF to respond to the needs of children in Libya. Some 30,000 conflict affected and displaced children and their families will benefit from child protection, education, water and sanitation programmes supported by this new donation.
  • 09 May 2017 - On 8th May, 2017, the World Health Organization and  Ministry of Health Libya jointly launched the summary report on findings of service availability and readiness assessment (SARA) survey at Corinthia Hotel, Tripoli.

  • 03 May 2017 - The UN Humanitarian Coordinator and the World Health Organization (WHO) condemn the armed attack occurring on 30 April in Sabha Medical Center in the South of Libya. While no hospital staff or patients were injured, the incident took place in a ward with women and children, causing fear and undue stress for those seeking medical treatment. Amidst the ongoing tension and escalation of conflict in southern Libya, it is of utmost importance that health services can be delivered safely.  
  • 03 May 2017 - Free press advances peace and justice for all.  Recognizing the crucial role of journalists, the United Nation dedicates May 3rd of every year, known as World Press Freedom Day, to honouring the work of journalists and advocating for ending crackdowns against the media.
