26 December 2014 - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), following further inquiries, has received assurances that reports concerning the misuse of Libyan Red Crescent Society-owned ambulances and uniforms in military attacks, such as included in a report by UNSMIL on 23 December 2014, are not correct.
UNSMIL reiterates its full support for the neutral and humanitarian work of the Libyan Red Crescent, and urges all parties to respect their work in the difficult circumstances they are operating under in Benghazi and elsewhere in Libya.
UNSMIL reminds all parties of their obligation to respect the provisions of international humanitarian law at all times.
