TRIPOLI – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) followed the recent sessions of the House of Representatives (HoR) held in Benghazi earlier this week. On 5 October, the House convened and we are informed that there were at least 102 members participating in the session. Ninety-eight members voted to amend the Rules of Procedure, including establishing a rotating 12-month term for the Presidency of the HoR. On 6 October, we are informed that at least 111 members in attendance conducted elections for a new Presidency of the HoR. UNSMIL notes the election of Mr. Al Saleheen Abdulnabi as Speaker of the House of Representatives, as well as the election of a new leadership team.

UNSMIL stresses its commitment to engaging with the HoR, its new Presidency, and all members. The Mission will continue its engagement with the parliament to advance the UNSMIL-facilitated political roadmap to unify institutions, address critical reforms, and hold elections within the timeframe stipulated in the Smaller Convening Agreement signed on 30 August. We are committed to working with Libyan stakeholders and international partners in this effort.
