The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Martin Kobler condemns the killing of 14 members of one family in Tarhouna, and calls for a prompt, impartial and full investigation into their deaths with a view to bringing those responsible to justice. The SRSG also urges protection of the witnesses and relatives of the victims.

According to information available to UNSMIL, the al-Kani armed group shot dead 11 men and three children in Tarhouna. A 70-year-old man in a wheelchair was reportedly among those killed.

“It is time to ensure accountability for such shocking crimes. I call on the Government to provide the necessary support to prosecutorial authorities to investigate this and other such cases in Libya,” said Martin Kobler.
