12 Nov 2017 - Tripoli, Libya - On Saturday 11 November 2017, 25 refugees departed from Mitiga airport in Tripoli, Libya bound for Niamey, Niger.
The group is heading to Niger as part of a humanitarian evacuation initiative between UNHCR, the Libyan government and the government of Niger. The Government of Niger has generously agreed to host the group until their resettlement claims are processed. Among these 25 refugees, there were 15 women, six men and four children.
11 Nov 2017 - 10 November 2017, Tripoli - With the aim of enhancing civil society organizations (CSOs)’ capacities to engage in reconciliation efforts in Libya, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP, organized a two-day training from 07 to 08 November in Tripoli, to equip CSOs with practical tools of conflict resolution, reconciliation and transitional justice.
11 Nov 2017 - Tripoli - as part of its efforts to promote reconciliation in Libya, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with the support of Promédiation, a non-governmental organization providing expertise in conflict resolution in Southern Libya, facilitated a two-day dialogue meeting, on 07 and 08 November, in Tripoli, between women representatives from Qaddadfa and Awlad Suleiman tribes.
10 Nov 2017 - WHO country office has completed an extensive workshop on Non-communicable disease Dialogue with national counterparts between 6th- 8th November in Tunis. Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), including heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes and chronic lung disease, are collectively responsible for almost 70% of all deaths worldwide. And the in Libya the NCD Burden is estimated to account for more than 76% all deaths and more than 41% mainly due to heart diseases.
03 Nov 2017 - The World Health Organization (WHO) country office in Libya delivered on 1st November 2017 to Derna three (3) Trauma Kits which can treat more than 300 moderate and serious injuries. This kits were procured with financial assistance from European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid (ECHO).
02 Nov 2017 - In just the past few weeks, a renowned investigative journalist was murdered by a bomb that booby-trapped her car; another was dismembered in the course of researching her story; and a photojournalist was found dead after being forced to leave his home at gunpoint.
From 2006 to 2016, 930 journalists and media workers were killed. Thousands of others routinely face sexual harassment, intimidation, detention and ill treatment.
