26 Aug 2024 - TRIPOLI - 26 August - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) expresses its deep concern over the deteriorating situation in Libya resulting from unilateral decisions. The Mission believes that continuing with unilateral actions will come at a high cost for the Libyan people to resolve the protracted crisis, and risks precipitating the country's financial and economic collapse.
22 Aug 2024 - TRIPOLI, 22 August 2024 - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) expresses grave concerns about reports of mobilization of forces in Tripoli, including the threats to use force to resolve the crisis surrounding the Central Bank of Libya. UNSMIL urgently calls for immediate de-escalation, restraint, and emphasizes that dialogue is the only solution to all issues.
14 Aug 2024 - TRIPOLI, 14 August 2024 – UNSMIL is following up with concern the recent unilateral acts by Libyan political actors and institutions, in the East, West and South. In the current climate, these unilateral acts serve to increase tension, undermine trust and further entrench institutional divisions and discord amongst Libyans. Now more than ever, consensus, dialogue and unity are needed.

09 Aug 2024 - TRIPOLI, 09 August- UNSMIL continues to closely monitor the controversy surrounding the outcome of the August 6 session to elect the President of the High Council of State (HCS). The Mission has taken note of the positions of the presidential contenders.
09 Aug 2024 - TRIPOLI - 9 August - UNSMIL monitors with concern the recent mobilization of forces in various parts of Libya, particularly in the southern and western regions. We commend ongoing efforts to de-escalate the situation and prevent further tension.
20 Jul 2024 - Tripoli - UNSMIL takes note of the meeting of members of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State Cairo on 18 July. While the Mission welcomes all steps in support of a Libyan consensus that facilitates a Libyan-led and owned political process towards national elections, the Mission reiterates that any such steps should be inclusive with a clear path to elections.

Tripole - UNSMIL congratulates the High National Elections Commission (HNEC) on completing the first phase of voter registration for 60 municipalities across Libya. Despite challenging circumstances, 210,545 Libyan citizens have registered to vote in the upcoming municipal elections.
10 Jul 2024 - TRIPOLI – UNSMIL is deeply concerned by reports of another abduction, this time in Misrata. On 8 July, 29-year-old political activist Al-Moatassim Areebi was abducted by unidentified armed men in civilian clothes along with Mohamed Shtewi. While Mr. Shtewi was released after being beaten, the whereabouts of Mr. Al-Areebi remain unknown.
