02 Mar 2015 - 02 March 2015 - This week, 13 electoral staff from the High National Elections Commission of Libya (HNEC) and experts from the UN Electoral Support Team to Libya, which includes capacities from UNSMIL and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), are coming together in Djerba, Tunisia for a technical workshop intended to strengthen management of electoral datasets in Libya.
25 Feb 2015 - 25 February 2015 – Following recent political and security developments, particularly the terrorist bombings in the City of Al-Qubbah and the decision of the House of Representatives to suspend its participation in the political dialogue, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) is undertaking a series of urgent consultations with the parties to ensure the convening of the next round of talks soon.
21 Feb 2015 - New York, 20 February 2015 - The members of the Security Council strongly condemned the bomb attack in al-Qubbah in Libya on 20 February, claimed by an affiliate of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL/ Da’esh), resulting in dozens of deaths and injuries. The members of the Security Council expressed their deep sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims of this heinous act and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
11 Feb 2015 - Ghedames, Libya - 11 February 2015 - A political dialogue round facilitated by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) convened in the City of Ghedames on Wednesday 11 February 2015.
For the first time, all invited participants attended the talks, which were conducted in a constructive and positive atmosphere.
09 Feb 2015 - 09 February 2015 - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) is facilitating a meeting of Libyan political dialogue to end the country’s political and security crisis. The meeting will take place in Libya later this week.
The specific venue and exact timing of this round are subject to the completion of the logistical and security preparations.
29 Jan 2015 - 29 January 2015 - Participants in the UN-facilitated Libyan political dialogue have discussed during their meeting in Geneva this week the venue for holding the future talks.
There was agreement on the principle of convening future dialogue sessions in Libya, provided that logistical and security conditions are available.
UNSMIL calls on all stakeholders to join the talks in an open and constructive spirit.
29 Jan 2015 - New York, 28 January 2015 - The Secretary-General condemns, in the strongest terms, the attack that took place at the Corinthia Hotel, in Tripoli on 27 January. He expresses his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives as a result of this despicable act. Terrorism has no place in the new Libya and will not undermine the ongoing political dialogue which the United Nations is facilitating.
26 Jan 2015 - Libyan parties convened on Monday 26 January 2015 a new round of dialogue hosted by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.
This is a followup to the meeting held in Geneva on 14-15 January 2015. Participants will start discussing the items that were agreed on in the last meeting.
