Media advisory on the coverage of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum in Switzerland

The Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) will convene in Switzerland next week from 1 to 5 February 2021, with the facilitation of the Acting Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Stephanie Williams, and with the generous hospitality of the Swiss Federal Government.

During the meeting, the LPDF will vote on the positions of a three-member Presidency Council and the Prime Minister in accordance with the roadmap adopted by the Forum in Tunis in mid-November. This new interim, unified executive authority will be primarily tasked to lead Libya to national elections set for 24 December 2021 and to reunify state institutions.

Following adoption on 19 January by the LPDF of the mechanism to select this temporary executive authority, UNSMIL announced the opening of a one-week period for the submission of candidacies, which closed yesterday at midnight.

A verification committee composed of three members of the LPDF will verify the candidacies submitted in accordance with the relevant requirements and compile the final lists of candidates for the Presidency Council for each region and for the post of Prime Minister.

The opening of next week’s event as well as other important activities and media stakeouts will be streamed live on webtv.un.org and a clean feed will be provided to interested TV channels.

Footage and photos of the event as well will be provided on daily basis to the media by UNSMIL, with the support of UN Television.

Media accreditation (Arab and International media)

In line with the current COVID-19-related restrictions, media will not have access to the meeting venue.

International journalists wishing to cover the event may request media accreditation using the following link.

Accreditation will ensure access to available visual material and virtual press conferences. The possibility of pooling international media outlets accredited to the United Nations in Geneva will be confirmed in the coming days.

More information on any press events will be communicated regularly.
