“Towards equal participation of women in building Libya’s future”
7 March 2017 – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Martin Kobler, condemns the military escalation in Libya’s Oil Crescent region which jeopardizes the political process and risks igniting wider conflict.
On Thursday, 2 March, IOM helped 163 stranded Malian migrants – 151 adults, seven children, five infants – return home on a charter flight from Tripoli, Libya.

IOM has held a five-day training for managers and staff of Libyan detention centres on: The Promotion and Protection of Migrants’ Human Rights inside the Detention Centres.
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) deplores the outbreak of violence in Abu-Selim, Tripoli that resulted in many casualties. The Mission commends the Presidency Council and community leaders’ efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement and prevent further escalation.
