UN Humanitarian Coordinator Expresses Concern over Deteriorating Conditions in Libya’s South

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) is following with great concern the tense situation in and around Tamanhint, where intermittent fighting continues to be reported.  The UN is deeply worried about the impact this heightened violence is having on the lives of the residents of South of Libya.

UNSMIL has received reports of food, water and medicine shortages, as well as increased electricity cuts.  There are also reports of families fleeing their homes in Tamanhint to Sabha and Ubari.

The UN Humanitarian Coordinator is working closely with UN agencies and other humanitarian actors to continue to provide assistance.

“I call on all parties to immediately cease all hostilities to prevent further unacceptable human suffering,” said Maria do Valle Riberio, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Deputy Head of UNSMIL and Humanitarian Coordinator.
