UN Special Envoy for Libya Ján Kubiš continues his engagement with Libyan, regional, and international actors

22 February 2021 - UN Secretary-General Special Envoy for Libya and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Ján Kubiš, continued his meetings and telephone calls with Libyan and international officials.

Yesterday, 21 February, Special Envoy Kubiš, called Minister of Interior, Fathi Bashaga to express grave concerns over the serious security incident that targeted his convoy.  The Special Envoy remarked that such reckless acts may pose threats to stability and security and may derail the political process and other efforts in support of Libya, its people. SE Kubiš called for a full, rapid, and transparent investigation into the incident that once again proves how important it is to keep all the arms only in the hands of the legitimate authorities.

In his efforts to mobilize international support for ongoing efforts in the political, security, economic and other areas to foster implementation of the LPDF Roadmap and decisions, the Special Envoy held a telephone conversation with the Maltese Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, Evarist Bartolo, had a discussion with the Head of the Egypt Security Committee on Libya, with Ambassadors of  France, UK, USA, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Norway to Libya, as well as with the Head of the EU Delegation to Libya, further with Permanent Representative of Estonia to the United Nations in New York (NY) as well as Permanent Representative of Libya to the UN in NY Taher el-Sonni.
