United Nations Hosts Second Consultative Meeting of Libyan Political Forces and Activists

Tripoli, 2 December 2013 – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) hosted on 30 November the second consultative meeting of Libyan forces and activists. The meeting was convened in Al-Waddan Hotel, Tripoli.

This meeting comes as a continuation of the discussions that were held during the first consultative meeting, which was convened on 31 October 2013, on the challenges that face the democratic process in Libya, including issues related to the management of the transitional period and the conditions needed to ensure the success of the national dialogue and the constitution-making effort.

During their discussions, the participants focused on the ways forward with regards to the transitional period as well as the development of a road map for it, which can be provided to the General National Congress to enrich its discussions on this issue.

An agreement was reached on regulatory principles that would guide the formulation of the road map to ensure that the democratic process is maintained and that there would be no power vacuum in the country.
