The United Nations Strongly Condemns the Criminal Bombing in Benghazi City

Tripoli – 13 May 2013 – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) strongly condemns the criminal bombing that took place this afternoon near Al-Jala'a Hospital in Benghazi city. The bombing resulted in a number of deaths, including children, in addition to several injuries. UNSMIL would like to express its sincerest condolences to the families of the victims, and wishes those injured a speedy recovery.

UNSMIL calls upon all Libyans during this critical phase to stand in solidarity against all attempts of destructions, terrorism, and destabilization of Libya. The Mission also underscores the need to support the legitimate authority of the State and enable it to shoulder its responsibilities in ensuring the safety and security of all citizens across Libya.

The United Nations will continue to support the efforts of the Libyan government and people to ensure the success of the democratic transition process, and build the future for which Libyans aspire, and for which they sacrificed so much during the 17th February Revolution.
