Tunis, Tunisia - The United Nations Mine Actions Service (UNMAS) started a three-week Non-Technical Survey (NTS) course on July 18, aimed at training ten Libyan nationals currently working in the field of mine action in Benghazi and surrounding areas.

Funded by the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), the course is designed to enhance the capacity of participants to assess the potential dangers posed by mines and Explosive Remnants of War (ERW). The training emphasizes practical skills for effective, accurate, and safe implementation of a non-technical survey in the field, which is a crucial element for identifying areas contaminated by mines and ERWs.

The practical training course covers a variety of topics including a mapping and sketching exercise to capture contaminated areas, and the utilization of provided equipment. It also includes an initial five-days training on ETB (Emergency Trauma Bag) to ensure proper first responder care in the situation of a medical emergency.
