UNSMIL Delegation in Tripoli to Support Libyan Efforts Towards a Ceasefire

Tripoli, 07 August 2014 – The Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, is leading a delegation from the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to Tripoli for consultations with the Libyan parties with a view to ending the violence in the country. The delegation includes the Director of Political Affairs at UNSMIL, Muin Shreim.

Mr. Ould Cheikh Ahmed, who is also deputy head of UNSMIL, Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator for Libya, will assess the humanitarian needs and explore options to alleviate the suffering of innocent civilians caused by indiscriminate shelling, displacement, acute food shortages and the disruption in basic services.

In this regard, Mr. Ould Cheikh Ahmed expresses his appreciation to Italy for facilitating the logistical support provided to the UNSMIL delegation. UNSMIL is working closely with the international community in a joint effort to achieve a durable and sustainable ceasefire.
