UNSMIL reiterates that all reports concerning its work and activities are first announced by the Mission
Reports are being circulated for the past few days on some news websites and social media channels about details on the AMultaqa AlWatani (National Conference) – which the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) plans to convene soon - including the date, venue location and other details. Those reports usually quote “an official source at UNSMIL" or "sources close to UNSMIL."
In this context, UNMSIL urges all Libyans to ignore such reports that aim at, deliberately or unintentionally, disrupting the relentless and sincere efforts to bring Libyans together around a consensual view to end the political impasse and move forward toward building a strong, capable and effective state.
The Mission reaffirms that all reliable news about the work and activities of UNMSIL are first announced by the Mission itself through its Head and Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Ghassan Salamé, or through its Media Office, via press releases or statements published on the UNSMIL’s official website or its official social media accounts.
